Full GMI Membership Confirmed

White Moss joins the exclusive club of certified environmentally responsible growing media producers.

The Growing Media Initiative (GMI) is a horticultural industry scheme, led by the HTA, to encourage the use of peat-free and peat-reduced growing media.
White Moss Horticulture is committed to creating a better environment through the continued improvement of all its growing media products. White Moss has become a full member of the GMI to help achieve greater levels of sustainable product use.
We currently use around 80% of non-peat products including Newlife, our truly sustainable alternative to peat, soils, mulches and bark. We are looking to increase this in the future as we aspire to become Gold members of the GMI by using 90% of peat free materials across our range.
Open to retailers and manufacturers the GMI has brought together all sides of the peat debate in horticulture to agree a national scheme that meets both environmental and industry objectives.
Peat has been the growing medium of choice for gardeners and professional growers for over 50 years, however, as concerns for the environment grow, there have been increased efforts to find other more sustainable kinds of growing media which perform equal to or better than peat.
As a member of the GMI we are looking to demonstrate our progress towards peat reduction and our commitment to offering our customers environmentally sound and sustainable growing media into the future.
