The record temperatures and lack of rainfall combined with high winds resulted in a peat land fire spreading across a large area of our Simonswood Moss site. The fire brigade from both Lancashire and Merseyside were on site for seven days and we would like to thank them for their hard work and bravery in tackling the fire the majority of which was extinguished by Tuesday afternoon/Wednesday morning. We are happy to report that nobody was injured and our fire safety plans worked well.
We would also like to thank our own staff who worked incredibly hard along side the fire brigade. The work they did helped insure that there was no damage to our wetland habitat or any of our other facilities on the site.
