Peat Free By 2020

UK Growing Media Industry agrees retail compost to be peat free by 2020.

As a leading, environmentally aware, company White Moss Horticulture welcomes the Growing Media Association agreement with DEFRA to phase out the use of peat in retail growing media by 2020. This agreement coincides with the Environment Secretary, Hilary Benn, calling for a phase out of the use of peat in retail compost as part of the latest act on C02 campaign. This campaign focuses on raising awareness of the environmental impacts associated with peat and promoting a switch to peat free alternatives in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and protect the valuable bio-diversity wildlife of low land bogs. This agreement is further supported by the Growing Media Initiative of which White Moss Horticulture is proud to be a full member, meaning that more than 55% of products used in our growing media are sourced from peat alternative materials.
